Today, Mini’s offerings include various derivatives of the Cooper, including a coupe, a roadster and a convertible; the slightly longer Clubman; high-performance John Cooper Works variants; and even the crossover SUV-inspired four-door Countryman. With such a diverse, fun-loving lineup, it’s no wonder that Mini is becoming among America’s most desirable small car automakers.
Entry-level Cooper E models are powered by an 181-hp electric motor, while SE models feature a more powerful one making 215 horsepower. An even more powerful dual-motor all-wheel drive version wearing the All4 badge could join the lineup later with 313 horsepower. Mini hasn’t confirmed whether both models is likely to make their way stateside, so if only one is chosen, we suspect (and hope) it would be the stronger SE. A John Cooper Works trim is likely to be offered in Europe, but Mini hasn’t confirmed it for the U.S. The JCW trim amounts to little more than an appearance package without any additional horsepower or suspension tweaks, so our instincts say it won’t make the trip across the Atlantic. We tested a model of the latter and were thrilled by its energetic handling and punchy acceleration. Mini says the SE will manage to hitting 62 mph in 6.7 seconds.
The’60s truly was the decade of the Mini Cooper Electric 2027. The Cooper E includes a 28.9-kWh battery pack, and SEs come with a larger 58.4-kWh pack, which should be beneficial to about 200 miles per charge. Neither Mini nor the EPA have released fuel-economy estimates for the new Cooper Electric, but we suspect it will undoubtedly be slightly more effective compared to the outgoing model.
